A Trail of Honor was erected in Norfolk, VA in 2015. Along its path are signs recognizing William Harvey Carney, William Henry Barnes, Benjamin F. Stewart, Thomas Boyne, David D. Barrow, George W. Bright and Douglas MacArthur. Trail of Honor


This sign at Charles City identifies the location where Medal of Honor recipient Daniel Butterfield composed the famous bugle call “Taps’  It was actually a revision of an earlier call named ‘Tattoo’.  A little known fact is the name ‘Taps’ came from the fact that the call could be played by ‘taps’ of a drum in the absense of a bugle.


This sign in Glendale, VA identifies the location where Benjamin B. Levy earned his Medal of Honor in a battle fought on 30 June 1862.  Levy is one of only a handful of Jewish men to ever receive the Medal of Honor.
